Tis the Season…
Tis the season… for snowmobiling! For all of this winter there has been a minimal amount of snow, and for Michigan, that is quite rare. For an area that averages about 40 inches a year, we have only gotten a few inches, much less than 10, maybe even less than 5. But the snowmobile ancestors have been appeased. What does that mean?
This Tuesday and into Wednesday promises to drop an almighty 12 inches or so onto our area and this bodes quite well for the immediate future of riding. While I do not have a super machine to ride on, much to the contrary, I look forward to this time of year for the whole year. This year will be especially fun and meaningful for me as it has been a few years since I have been able to ride, and this year we also hauled the snowmobiles out of storage and got them up and running again.
Again these are not the newest machines with the most advanced features. They are, in fact, 28 years old and definitely show their age. But that is what gives these humble machines their character. They may not have some fancy rear suspension, or any rear suspension to speak of, but you don’t expect one either. They aren’t the fastest machines, but they can definitely get you from point A to point B and excite you along the way. They are the backbone and blueprint of which modern snowmobiles take their roots. Without my machines, we might not have newer machines and styles. And we are better off for them.
So until Wednesday comes, I wait with anticipation and hope. For this is the stuff my winter dreams are made of.
